At the Airport

Inquiry

A: What flights n. 航班 do you have from New York to London tomorrow?

B: One moment, please. And I’ll find out what’s availablea.

A: I’d like to travel [1]first-class.

B: OK. We have a non-stopa.

A: When should I get to the airport?

B: Please be there [2]by 8:45 [3]at the latest.

Notes:

Please return to Guangzhou in two weeks.

The E-mail will reach you in 2 seconds.

3. at the latest

Notes:

2. You can have all the...you want的意思是“你可以任意(吃、喝等)”。自助餐上,我们可以随意选择自己想要的食物,这时你可以说“You can have all the food and drink you want at a buffet dinner”。

Notes

 to reserve a flight 订机票

to reserve a hotel room 订旅馆

to reserve a table (for two) 订餐厅(两人)桌

 to reserve a car

Cultural Background

Similar Expressions

There is no reservation for you.

I have nothing in my book for you.

There’s no reservation here for you.

Notes:

1. “A piece of cake!”

Notes:

by fair means or foul

Notes:

1.“Are you taking a taxi or public transportation?”

by train 乘火车

by underground 乘地铁

by electric car 乘电车

To the museum

Notes:

5. “at Prince and Broadway”是一种简化了的说法,完整的句子应该是“at the place where Prince crosses Broadway”。

Notes:

1. bump into和crash into都表示相撞的意思。更多的时候,相撞会用这样的方式表达:  “The cars crash into each other”(两辆车相撞)。

2.“get out of hospital”是出院,住院是“go to hospital”,不过要与“go to the hospital”区别开。“go to the hospital”表示的是去医院,可能是看望病人等,而不是住院。

Notes:

1. “rush hour”

2. “separates the men from the boys”

3. door-to-door

Notes:

1. 美元的正确单位是dollar,如:“this costs six dollars”,但一般人仍会不太正式地用buck(一元),如:“this costs ten bucks”或“that’ll be a buck”。在美国,店员提到价格的时候,通常都不加dollar或buck,如:“That will be nine ninety-nine”(那需要花费九元九十九分)。

Notes:

2.“not so far”在这里不是表达距离的短语,而是委婉表示目前仍未完成某件事情,在这里可以用“not yet”或“not for the time being”替换。

Notes:

1. “….might seem rude, but….”

“I’m in television”就属这类简章英语了。这句话的完整表达应该是:“I work in a television station”。

About the Scene
