1968年丹尼尔·克雷格生在英格兰的柴郡切斯特，1972年父母离异后，丹尼尔和姐姐一起在利物浦被抚育成人。他从6岁开始在学校剧中露面，母亲卡罗尔也努力培养他这方面的兴趣。16岁时丹尼尔搬到伦敦居住，在这里他进入国家青年剧院受训，并参加在曼彻斯特的巡回演出，90年代初期他从著名的伦敦市政厅音乐戏剧学院毕业。
